Residential Asphalt Paving

At Black Tar, we offer three main services for residential asphalt paving. Some of these require some more extensive work but, after our initial assessment of either your existing driveway or the area you would like to install a driveway, we will be able to give you more information regarding the options most suitable.

A cracked and damaged driveway can cause a multitude of difficulties. Much like a crack in the windscreen, a crack in the driveway will spread over time. Cracks and heaves in your driveway run the risk of allowing water to settle in unwanted places, therefore potentially causing damage to the foundations of your home. Not only that, but a poorly maintained driveway can cause damage to your car in terms of tire maintenance and wear, the suspension and the underside of your vehicle. If children regularly play on or near your driveway, cracks and heaves in the asphalt could cause trips, falls and injuries. This is where Black Tar Residential Asphalt Paving comes in handy.

Grade and Pave

This service is for properties that currently contain a gravel surface of at least 8 inches in depth. The service begins by grading your existing gravel base by adding up to 2 inches of granular. The project will then commence using granular (A) stone to ensure proper gravel depth, compaction, and positive drainage away from the foundation, towards designated areas. Approximately 2.5 inches of Road-Grade Asphalt (HL3) will be applied prior to compaction.

If your driveway has become cracked and damaged over time, then this routine driveway maintenance may be the ideal service for you.

Peel and Pave

This service is for properties that have an existing driveway that needs to be replaced. The service involves peeling and then dumping your old asphalt. Sub-grading will then commence using granular (A) stone to ensure proper gravel depth, compaction, and positive drainage away from the foundation, towards designated areas. Approximately 2.5 inches of Road-Grade Asphalt (HL3) will be applied prior to compaction.

Full Excavation and Pave

This service is for properties that are looking to pave a surface that does not have a gravel base, such as grass or mud areas. The service begins with a full excavation and dumping of up to 12 inches in depth. Sub-grading will then commence by adding granular (A) stone to ensure proper gravel depth (up to 12 inches), compaction, and positive drainage. Approximately 2.5 inches of Road-Grade Asphalt (HL3) will be applied prior to compaction.

Resurfacing

This is another service option for maintaining an existing driveway. If there has been damage caused by use over time, in particular large, heavy vehicles compacting the driveway, or perhaps maintenance has not been as regular as required, or poorly carried out, then there can be severe damage to the asphalt. You will notice damage to the asphalt if there are large puddles forming on the surface after rainfall, which do not drain away quickly, or rough cracks appearing. Our experts are highly trained and experienced in the safe removal and disposal of old asphalt, as well as the installation of the new. The potential damage a poorly-maintained driveway can cause to your home cannot be underestimated, so call us today.

Types of Asphalt

The three components of asphalt are gravel, stone dust, and tar. The general rule is that the more gravel the asphalt contains, the stronger it will be. We will always use HL3 asphalt, to give you the most longevity on your driveway. We want you to get the most usage from your driveway, and to ensure it is as safe as it can be, which is why the asphalt we use has a higher gravel content in order to ensure its stability for years to come.

State-of-the-art Equipment

Having new equipment may be costly, but it is worth it since it substantially improves the lifespan of asphalt. Majority of Black Tar’s equipment is brand new. We spare no expense when it comes to quality.

Not only that, but we offer different warranty and payment options for you so you can rest assured that your driveway is covered. We offer a warranty that will cover you for either 1 or 5 years, because we are so sure of the quality of asphalt and workmanship that we can offer as your driveway is our priority.
